Do you have a label?

Is there a standard answer you offer when someone asks you about yourself?

What is your answer when you are asked:

Who are you?

Most of us will answer with what we do, what we believe or what we believe we are. For example:

I am a …(Insert job/trade)

I am a …(Insert religious belief)

I am a …(Insert role – Mum, Dad etc)

Today, while in a conversation with someone, we were discussing a Spiritual Church in the area. He mentioned his wife was a Pagan. It was the first thing he said really. I thought to myself…why is it that we have labels? Why is it that we believe we have to class ourselves as ‘something’?

Isnt this why we feel so separated? Isnt this why often there are fights, wars and unrest between different groups of ‘labelled people’? Isnt this why, in a herd mentality, many people choose to only be with others of the same label?

I think when we speak about who we are, we are so used to saying what we do or believe that it has simply blended into a standard answer. Do you agree?

I am no different. Everything from my email signature to social media descriptions etc all have me labeled as different aspects of myself. Energy Intuitive, Kundalini Reiki Master/Teacher, International Author, Speaker, Podcaster, Blogger …. It is all about what I do and what I have done..it is all to let people know what to expect or what they can find. It is not really about who I am although all the aspects make up who I am.

We do need labels as a human but…

What if we answered the question ‘Who Are You?’ with this answer:

I AM a complex system of cells that when working in a certain vibration form this human body that me, as a spirit/soul/god source energy is here to experience life in.

That would certainly create some discussion! Or, draw a blank lol

Here is what I believe..I AM a complex system of cells that when working in a certain vibration form this human body that me, as a spirit/soul/god source energy is here to experience life in.

What I do and what I believe are a different discussion. And when talking about those thing I try to be careful with my words and not describe myself AS any of these things but alternatively describe what I do, what I believe and what roles I may have in human existence and my spiritual path. Its not as easy as saying it with a label perspective but it is more truthful and feels more in alignment.

Labels separate us.

Labels create a difference between us all when really we are all one, we are also all individuals with our own beliefs. We do though, as Ive said, require labels to exist here as a human.

I think its important to be aware of the words we speak.

Take note this coming day or week, how many times you give yourself a label. Take note also as to how many times others are labeling themselves or others.

What we think, say and intend shape our reality. Are the labels we are putting on our self creating the reality we desire? Could we be more careful and aware as to BEing who we are AS WELL AS having certain labels to define our human and physical life?

Something to consider 🙂
